About Us

BUKU PRODUCTIONS THEATRE COMPANY, Inc. is a 501c.3 non-profit corporation, dedicated to educating Detroit area youth through theatre arts, bringing forth adoption awareness issues and serving the metro Detroit community through the creation of theatre productions with high quality, integrity, and positive messages.

Founded in 1988 by Artistic Director and President, Reuben Yabuku, the original goal of the company was to establish an independent theatre production company that would present quality stage plays with artistic integrity to the metro Detroit community.  In 2004 the company attained its Advance Ruling as a tax-exempt non-profit, federally recognized 501c.3 corporation and it re-committed to serve the metro Detroit area with its pledges to Adoption Awareness and Youth Education Through Theatre Arts.

Our distinct ability and commitment to produce high quality, professional, full-fledged musical theatre productions stand alone in Southeast Michigan’s regional theatre community. Our productions rival Broadway musical productions with superb singing, dancing, acting, and talented musicians performing live.

Another thing that makes our musical theatre productions so unique is that our productions are often written by our Artistic Director, Reuben Yabuku. So you won’t see most of our musical productions re-interpreted anywhere else in or around town.

Sure, we know it’s extremely expensive to produce professional musical theatre and hire metro Detroit’s top singers, dancers, actors, musicians, music directors, and choreographers, but we’re committed to presenting nothing but the best in entertainment. It’s typical for our productions to hire as many as thirty (30) performers and crew and pay them professional wages.

In fact, Mr. Yabuku was commissioned by Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit and Arts League of Michigan to write and direct, “Rock My Soul,” as an official Super Bowl XL event. Luckily, the NFL picked up the tab to pay the cast of over one hundred (100) performers.

We are committed to continuing our tradition of presenting high quality, Broadway-like professional theatre for Southeast Michigan.
